I know, how silly of me!  I’m blogging about another blog post I did for someone else’s blog.  :D   But it’s a good one – all about How to Choose Your Wedding Photographer.

Please take a looksie!  You might find your DJ or lighting services for your wedding while you’re there, too.  ::grin::

Okay, we knew it was coming.  :D   The editor from the Style section knew a cool idea when she heard it and decided to feature our June 4th couple in the Father’s Day Sunday paper.  The article is wonderful, all about how Jenna & Justin picked the crosswalk of a Potrero Hill intersection to say their vows.

Yes, indeed, they shut down a whole city block.  The view was to die for, the reason was so romantic, and come rain or shine, that’s where the vows were to be had!

The editor approached me and asked if they could get five images from the ceremony to choose from and feature, and the one they chose was one of my favorites.  It’s right after Justin stomps the glass, the crowd yells Mazel tov and he plants a big kiss on Jenna.  My 2nd shooter for the day, friend and PPA certified photographer Jeanne dePolo, was on the ladder for that shot while I was down in the aisle for the “traditional” view – and hers was the one they chose!

Why do I have a 2nd photographer?  For exactly that reason! My 2nd photographer IS my second pair of eyes and gives me the necessary “two places at once” that my style of wedding photography demands.  I’m a documentarian, a storyteller, and an artist all at once – and a little bit anal wanting to capture every-single-moment.  My 2nd photographers are or have been lead photographers for weddings for at least three seasons and I trust them enough to put my name and reputation on every shot they take.  My 2nd photographer is there in case anything happens to me (accident, illness) so that I know my bride and groom are covered no matter what.  My 2nd photographer is VITAL.

And in this case, my 2nd photographer got her shot in the Sunday Chronicle.  Hee!

More from that wedding when we’re done!

Just found out that this issue of Brides Northern California, both online and on paper, is my new BFF. Can you have a paper BFF?!

First, my couple Jessica & Kevin were featured in a shot of one of my fave places to have an engagement session, downtown San Jose:

Then, my gorgeous butterfly bride Tiffany became a fashion icon with the feature in Aisle Say, a very cool blog with little tips and finds that I think should be on every bride’s RFF. Hey, that’s it! A BFF RFF! Oh, be careful, my geek is showing. :/

You might remember Tiffany from this shot from her wedding to Javier in Nestldown:

AND the editors chose me as one of the Hot List! Yipee! Page 32 if you want to see…

I’m so excited – I placed in the latest WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) contest. Yipee!

Why does this contest mean so much more to me than others? Because they judge the content of the image, not the retouching or the artistic effects. Don’t get me wrong, I loves me some Photoshop, but my mantra is, “Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.” Ya know? If the subject matter stands out, you really should leave it be, at least in my world.

These guys mean business. No retouching, no nothin. As it was in the camera. We can change it to B&W and sharpen it a little but that’s it. In fact, when you apply for membership, if they see your site has too much “effects” going on, they won’t allow you to join.

The competition gets tougher every single time, too. This time images that placed were from all over the world, only a handful of us from Northern CA placed.

Mine was in the Full Frame B&W category, from our recent wedding with Sarah & Ryan. So excited!

Okay, just a quick update here for all my Carmel, Carmel Valley and Monterey Bay wedding couples…

Central Coast Bride is offering free wedding websites for brides.  Paul & I loved having a wedding site when we were married so that we could post all kinds of things we knew our guests needed.  http://www.ewedding.com/?go=centralcoastbride

On that note, let’s have an impromptu Site of the Week!  The gorgeous Tehama Golf Club in Carmel…

The Grand Salon at Casa Real was divvy’d up so that two killer floral designers could do something special.  On both sides, Pleasanton Rentals provided the accessories, decor, furniture, and Fantasy Sound Event Services made everything sparkle with fantastic event lighting throughout the Grand Salon.  Both heavily contributed towards the overall room design.

First up, Karl at Delford West and his “Southern Charm” style!
